Where things are

The new-here map — what an agent, a skill and a knowledge base each are, and where in your dashboard you change what your agent says, add your own data, and turn features on.

New here and not sure what's what? This is the short map. Everything below happens in your dashboard — the console is the full editor, but you rarely need to start there.

Agent, skill, knowledge base — what's the difference?

These three words get mixed up constantly, so here it is in one line each:

  • An agent is the assistant your customers talk to. It has a personality, a job, and a set of things it's allowed to do. You can have several.
  • A knowledge base is your material — the documents, pages and facts the agent answers from. An agent answers from its knowledge bases, not from the open internet.
  • A skill is a procedure — a named "how to handle X" the agent follows when a situation comes up (e.g. "book an appointment", "chase missing documents").

The fuller version, with a diagram, is on How the pieces fit.

Where do I change what my agent says?

Open your agents, pick one, and choose Improve. That screen is where you edit, in plain terms:

  • its personality and tone (the "persona"),
  • its job and boundaries (the "task"),
  • its greeting — the first thing it says,
  • and each skill and knowledge base attached to it.

You don't have to write a prompt from scratch — each item has an Improve it button that suggests wording for you. For the complete editor, use Open in console on the same screen.

Where do I put my own data?

Your data lives in a knowledge base. On an agent's Improve screen, find its knowledge base and use Add content to upload files (PDF, Word, text) or paste a page. The agent starts answering from it right away. More on this in Building a knowledge base.

If a knowledge base is empty, the agent will honestly say it doesn't know — so the single most useful first step is to give it something to read.

How do I make it capture leads, bookings, or hand off to a person?

On the Improve screen, the What it does for you panel lets you switch on outcomes in plain terms: capture a lead, take a booking request, chase a document checklist, escalate to a human. Whatever it captures lands in your Inbox for your team to work through, and you choose who gets notified.

  • Test — each agent has a Test screen where you can talk to it yourself first.
  • Publish & share — publishing gives you a public link and a QR code to hand out; you can re-open those any time from the agent's card.

Still stuck?

Browse the concepts for the "what", the rest of the docs for the "how" — or just ask the guide in your dashboard; it can take you straight to the right screen for your own agent.
